A five-star hotel in the Swiss Alps starts accepting crypto payments

The Chedi Andermatt, a five-star hotel in the luxurious Andermatt area of the Swiss Alps, has started accepting crypto payments. A report unveiled this news on August 26, noting that the hotel has been mulling embracing crypto payments for four years. Reportedly, this bullish move will allow guests to settle bills exceeding $218 (£158.85) in Bitcoin (BTC/USD) and Ethereum (ETH/USD).

According to the report, the hotel’s prices are set in fiat to eliminate any risk of volatility. The Chedi Andermatt will also convert all the crypto it receives into Swiss francs. Jean-Yves Blatt, the hotel’s General Manager, said The Chedi Andermatt has for a long time known that cryptocurrencies have a future in hotel operations.

Blatt further disclosed that the hotel’s decision to embrace crypto is inspired by the increasing spread and acceptance of crypto across the globe. He added that the hotel is proud to be among the first to offer its guests a secure means of payment through crypto.

Striving to offers unique services

This news comes after George Residence became the first luxurious hotel in Nigeria to accept payment in BTC. Moreover, the hotel decided to embrace BTC as its primary reserve to hedge against the rising inflation in the country. According to the company’s CEO, Yanju George, the establishment already holds 50% of its cash reserves in BTC.

Yanju added that BTC is the currency of the future and the hotel seeks to position itself well by increasing the amount of money it holds in the largest cryptocurrency. Touting BTC, he said the cryptocurrency offers the hotel’s guests a faster and more secure way to enjoy the services it provides.

The Pavilions Hotels & Resorts became the first international boutique hotel group to accept crypto payments in July. The company joined hands with Coindirect, allowing guests to pay for services in its 14 establishments using BTC, ETH, and 40 other cryptocurrencies.
